Hello, I am LCD. Welcome to parkfreeovernight.com!

This is a website that lists places where you can park overnight, free of charge.
This is a user contributed website, all contents are provided by your fellow travelers, and provided to you at no cost, in the hopes that you will in turn provide your own experiences to benefit those who helped you.

Thanks goes out first, to our founding members.
Bill Halberstadt, Gene Teggatz, and Bob Cook, from WalmartRVing group at yahoo and discoveryowners.com, who graciously permitted me to use their data that they gathered over the years.

How did I get started with this site?
In September of 2007, I bought a 35' long, 11' high diesel bus on ebay, with the intention of converting it into a RV/office. I have never driven anything bigger than a minivan before that, so it was a daunting task to fly to South Carolina and drive it across the country to California. While doing research on the internet, I found rv parking policies at walmart.  It took me over a week of driving, staying at various walmarts, highway rest areas and truck stops, and made it back home. Since then I took many trips and put over 11k miles on my beloved bus, using the resources provided by various websites and groups on where to stay/park. When I noticed that there was an uproar over at walmartRVing group (and other related groups) over a member attempting to harvest the data and open a pay site, I decided to offer my services as a web monkey to keep the information public, free, and searchable.

So how does this site work?
It's still under construction and I am working on it in my spare time, which is not a lot. Right now, you can submit a location, and also submit a comment on a location. Soon, the ability to upload photos(right now you can send it to me and I can add it manually), mapping (google or mapquest makes this really easy) and skype(you will be able to call if necessary, right on your computer - not needed if you are using your cell phone to access this site). Also you will be able to register on the site, create blog of your travels, and many other functions I haven't yet thought up. There will be several founding members and volunteers who will be able to edit and approve guest entries, to keep this site free of spam and inappropriate materials.

Will I ever have to pay for this information?
No. The information is freely given to me by helpful people on the web. I will never charge membership fees, registration fees, etc. I use this information myself, so the cost of operation of this site is on me. If I ever decide to display advertising on this site, majority of profits generated will be spent on contests, giveaways etc for the member of this site (t-shirts, etc).

Is it legal to park at the places you listed?
There are many cities that have ordinances on the books that prohibit sleeping in your vehicles. Whether they enforce it is another matter. We will try to come to a consensus as to whether it's safe to do so, by the number of comment each place/city receives.

Can I sue you if your information is inaccurate?
NO. Like any other website on the internet, paid membership site or free, has disclaimers that releases liability for the owner of the site. I will put up a "T&C" boilerplate soon, but for now, all information on this site is As-is, Where-is, with no guarantee or warranty whatsoever.

What are all the version numbers for?
that's just the way for me to remind myself what changes were made and when. You can see the previous version change notes here.
